The Scent of Economic Loss
By Cole McDowell
The visual outcome of three months working on a rose farm distilling roses. When the global lockdown brought supply chains to a halt, the rose industry was one of the first in Kenya to be hit badly. With huge losses across the country, I had the opportunity to try and set up essential oil stills on the Rose Farm Tambuzi. I made a rough prototype of stills that could be used on the farm, if the farm owner does decide in the future to turn to essential oil production as a means to salvage his product from perishing.
Shot entirely with an iPhone and go pro, the low tech quality of the video allowed me to move around the farm and observe things with ease. All audio was recorded on the farm using a Tascam.
